Granada
It is not possible to say exactly when the area of Granada was settled. However, it can be assumed that due to the fertile soils and the protection provided by the mountains, the region was already inhabited around 500 BC before its first documentary mention. When the Romans conquered the Iberian Peninsula, they named the place Illiberis. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the area was first ruled by the Vandals and then the Byzantines.
In 711 the Moors invaded the south of the Iberian Peninsula and in 756 founded a new city called Madinat Ilbira, around 10 km north of today’s Granada wherefrom the entire province was to be administered. They called the old settlement Qala Garnata, from which Granada developed. After the fall of the Caliphate of Cordoba in 1012, a very changeable period in the history of the city began. First, the Berbers took control of the area; they moved the administrative headquarters back to Granada because this place, protected by mountains, was easier to defend than Madinat Ilbira in the event of an attack.
After the Berbers came the Almoravids and Almohads and from 1238 to 1492 Granada became the capital of the Nasrid Sultanate – surprisingly, since large parts of southern Spain were recaptured by the Christians as early as the beginning of the 13th century. In fact, the Moors were able to hold out in Granada and the surrounding area until the end of the 15th century, before the last Nasrid ruler, Muhammad XII surrendered on January 2, 1492; on this day he handed over the city to the Catholic Kings Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon.
Alhambra
We owe one of the most important architectural monuments in Spain to the Nasrids: the Alhambra. It was built in the 13th and 14th centuries as a royal residence on the foundations of older facilities. The Alhambra of Granada is not a single building, but a collection of palaces. The most important structures include: the Alcazaba defense system, the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles V, the Palace City and the so-called Generalife.
The Alhambra cannot be described – you have to see the Alhambra for yourself! The best thing to do is book your personal private jet flight to Granada today!

Sights of Granada
Today’s Granada is how one imagines a Spanish city. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets. There are always small places with trees that provide some shade in the summer months. Countless restaurants and tapas bars look forward to old and new faces. Granada is also well positioned when it comes to hotels. There is a wide range of accommodation of all types. If you are looking for something special, we recommend staying at the Parador de Granada – this hotel is located in a 15th century monastery, within the walls of the famous Alhambra. Would you like to live even more stylishly in Grenada? We mean: it is not possible!
